In New Hampshire, the IRS rule is clear: your vehicle must be picked up on or before December 31 to count for this year’s tax deduction. With WheelWise, if you contact us by about December 27, we can virtually always guarantee a December 31 pickup window in most areas. We schedule Monday through Saturday all December, including Christmas week, and in many New Hampshire metro areas we can offer same-day or next-day pickup when you call before early afternoon on a weekday.
Your donation starts with a 2-minute online form or quick phone call. Have your signed title ready, and we’ll handle everything else: free towing anywhere in New Hampshire, no inspection, no repairs needed, and non-running vehicles are welcome. Whether you’re in Manchester, Nashua, Concord, Portsmouth, Dover, Keene, Rochester, or up through the Lakes Region and the Seacoast, we’ll work to get your vehicle picked up before the year-end deadline. Your car, truck, SUV, or van helps Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) charity serving people who are blind or visually impaired—and you receive a tax receipt that can potentially reduce this year’s taxes when you itemize.

Heritage for the Blind processes your tax receipt

Year-end tax deduction facts
December 31 is the IRS cutoff
For federal taxes, the donation counts for this year only if your vehicle is actually picked up on or before December 31. Scheduling alone isn’t enough—the tow in New Hampshire must be completed by year-end.
IRS Form 1098-C for larger deductions
If your donated vehicle sells for more than the IRS threshold, Heritage for the Blind issues Form 1098-C. You’ll use this form to substantiate your deduction when you file and attach it if the IRS requires.
Deduction usually equals sale price
In most cases, the IRS limits your deduction to the gross proceeds from the charity’s sale of the vehicle. Your final tax acknowledgment from Heritage for the Blind states this amount for your records.
You must itemize on Schedule A
To claim a car donation tax benefit, you generally need to itemize deductions on Schedule A of your federal return. If you take the standard deduction, you normally cannot also claim a separate vehicle donation deduction.
30-day acknowledgment timeline
After your car is sold, Heritage for the Blind sends you a written acknowledgment, typically within about 30 days of the sale. Keep this with your tax records as proof of your qualified charitable contribution.
